I Know, I know. Summer is over, you say. The kids are back in school, Labor Day has come and gone. It is fall. Time to move on to colored leaves and pumpkin pies. Summer is gone until next year.

But not really, not quite yet. Summer is definitely saying her goodbyes, but it isn’t over until the end of September. We are still having warm days.  There are still a couple of weeks left.  And, best of all,  summer still has a few last offerings of  produce left for us. It is as if she is lingering, begging not to be put away before she is done.

Last of the Peaches

Last week I was at our Farmer’s Market for the last day of the market and again, they had peaches. These were the last of the summer harvest.  They still looked perfectly beautiful and they were oh, sooo sweet.  Alas,…. I bought another half bushel. How could I not?

Peach Pie Smoothie

As before,  we ate a good portion of them fresh and a pie or two appeared. But this time, I also used some of the peaches  in smoothies. Smoothies are delicious. They provide quick and easy nutrition…..and they are fun. This Peach Pie smoothie eliminates the extra sugar of peach pie, but not the taste and it comes with a high nutritional impact to boot.

To Your Good Health

YOGURT has been called the original health food. It boosts your immune system, helping fight infections and ward off colds and flus. It provides half of your daily requirement for calcium and vitamin B12 and pitches in a good 10 to 12 percent of your daily need for magnesium and potassium.

PEACHES are good for your eyes. Beta carotene improves vision health by increasing circulation of blood. Peaches also contain vitamin c as well as potassium  which helps regulate heart beat and blood pressure. They also contain antioxidants which help control aging processes.

CINNAMON doesn’t take a back seat to peaches in this fantastic smoothie. Cinnamon increases cognitive function. Forget coffee to wake you up and help you focus. Just simmer some cinnamon In a little water and inhale. Cinnamon also does good things for your colon, your blood sugar, and circulation. It helps alleviate arthritis too.

Bottoms Up

With all of these wonderful benefits, can you think of a better way to bid summer farewell  than with this wonderful peach pie smoothie? I must tell you that this was a big hit with my family and they are sorry to see the end of this wonderful summer fruit. So I share with you our last splurge of summer, our End of Summer Peach Pie Smoothie. I hope that you enjoy it as much as our family did.
